During 2009, the angle building facing the main plaza in the city of Guadalajara collapsed. The following year COARQ started an international competition which main purpose was to find the best scheme for the replacing building.

The brief asked for a four star Hotel building with 45 rooms, 8 suites, a bar and a restaurant and the back of house spaces.

The suites have been located in the best positions, at the angle at each floor and on the last floor. Most of the remaining rooms are designed to have windows towards the nearby streets, rather than towards the internal courtyard.

The façade has been designed with horizontal and vertical thin stone elements, providing a second skin to the building. It serves also as sun shading system and combines the requirements of using traditional materials with a contemporary design.
