As society reevaluates its dependence on the vast transportation network
of the automobile, new models emerge that promote a new culture of
connectivity and sustianability at a human scale. Sky Walk acts as an
exploratory model for a new metropolitian network of pedestrian bridges
that can act as social spaces for the incarcerated occupants of
skyscrapers in order to reconnect with one another and with nature. With
fabrication happening off-site and utilizing an intelligence in
deployment, this new model integrates sustainable concepts including
operable photovoltaic panels which both collect sunlight and allow for
air circulation; perforated metal skin which regulates the amount of
daylight in order to achieve the optimal thermal comfort of the bridge
occupants; and green spaces which provide for recreation areas for the
inhabitants of the connected towers.
