This submission called PRÊT-À-PORTA is a concept for designbymany's pop-up retail store competition.
Our idea focused on the necessity for pop-up retail stores to be easy to set-up, tear-down, are inexpensive, and accessible. We used the idea of elevating a standard porta-potty to make a shoe retail and gallery space. The idea of attracting people to the store by using the transcluent properties of the porta-potty and lighting it up to act as a lantern or beacon on the street was really integral to our concept. This allows the fascade to ignite the street and create a really cool vibe.
Using existing components of the porta-potty we were able to provide storage for products in the existing toilet compartment, use the doors for security when not in use, and use the patterns on the fascade to create additional features such as windows, displays, advertising, and cut-outs to further elevate this idea of a high-end retail store.
We came up with an easy way of combining the porta-potties together which creates an exciting interior condition with 'pillars' and also allows for multiple configurations to be achieved depending on the need of the space.
We hope you enjoy the concept!
