new shotgun
the new shotgun house is a little modified house for new Orleans. here we arranged the functions in two split level and thus minimizes the over all foot print required for this kind of building. the concrete footing and structure is quite capable sustain hurricane. the air tight form is insulated by 15” thick walls on both east and west facade. to minimize the over all cost, we designed the thermal wall special treatment only in the living spaces. though the building is designed for ‘passivhaus’ standards, but we designed it for both passive ventilation and cross ventilation. the split level section give us an opportunity for cross ventilation through the limited operable window in south and north.
