Hexagonal Trellis Facade

This approach to the REskin challenge is to attach an additional glazing system to the structure that will provide insulation as well as function as a trellis.  The system consists of a series of repeated hexagonal panels constructed of aluminum mullions and double glazing.  High density polyethylene cylinders attached to the mullions would vary in size and result an inward curving trellis that would support the growth of vegetative shade.  The existence of the vegetation will be cyclical as the system blocks unwanted sunlight in the summertime and conversely allow it in during colder months.

The hexagonal panels are congruent in size and shape for efficient manufacturing while the cylindrical forms, while varying in length, could also be produced similarly due to its simple design.  Overall, the design attempts to preserve the pre-existing structure by improving its efficiency without completely rebuilding its exterior façade.
