We are pleased to announce the winner of the DesignByMany Pedestrian Street Canopy sponsored by HP. The winning entry was “baby i’m a star” .Congratulations to Alphonso Peluso on winning an HP Designjet 111 Printer. All of the source files can be downloaded here.Feel free to download the files showing how the design was put together. We highly encourage everyone to download them and post variations of the design.
*Please note that community voting was ONLY used to select the top 10 projects that the judges would vote on. The community votes did NOT affect the results there after.
The challenge is to design a protective canopy for an urban pedestrian street. The goal is to provide an architectural solution that is functional, feasible and elegant. The canopy must protect people from the elements (rain, sun), while promoting good ventilation and daylight levels. Artificial lighting should be integrated into the design. The designer is free to choose a location, but the documentation should clearly explain the chosen location and how the design responds to climate and orientation. Please see the images in the gallery for design precedents.

DesignByMany is a challenge based design technology community. Users post challenges to the community along with their design source files. The community can then post responses with their own source files to solve the challenge. They can also comment on the challenge and interact with other designers throughout the process.
